Affiliate Advertising

Affiliate advertising is an essential part of the life of an affiliate marketer. This is because it is necessary to attract traffic to your site so that the visitors can read your pre-selling content that will put them in a buying frame of mind when they click through to the merchant's site.

Affiliate Advertising Through Content

Now I'm thinking that you reckon it's a bit strange to be talking first-off about 'content' in a section about affiliate advertising. But the truth is that all affiliate advertising starts with the content on your site.

Let's expand on that a bit further...

People use the internet to look for information. They type a word or phrase into the search engines and the search engines flash up some results based around the keywords that the people typed in.

If you have done your keyword research properly you will write content based around those keywords and then people will find your pages.

Let's look at an example...

You are building a web site around the theme of woodworking. Your keyword research indicates that many people are looking for information about woodworking jigs. These are items that assist woodworkers to complete tasks more efficiently and safely.

So you write about a variety of jigs for different tasks and describe how to construct and use them. You give as much information as you possibly can. When people find your pages they will be impressed because of the scope and depth of your coverage. The term that is commonly used in in internet marketing is that visitors see you as 'over-delivering'. And that is what you are always aiming for - over-delivering keyword-focused, high quality content for your visitors.

To continue our example...

Within your content pages you will refer those visitors, who prefer to use commercially available jigs, to a merchant site that has an affiliate program. Your pre-selling content has them arriving at the merchant's site in a buying mood. If they buy, you get your commission.

It is also important to not only write for your visitors, but also for the search engines. They are in the business of providing the right information to searchers and they can only do that if you are writing good quality, relevant content.

Your aim is to try and get your pages listed in the top 10 of the search results. However, don't waste time by playing around with all sorts of tricks and methods that surround search-engine-optimization. Just stick to the basics - proper keyword research, over-deliver on content and write in pre-selling mode.

That brings me to another important point. I refer to 'pre-selling on a few occasions and it occurs to me that not everyone will know exactly what is meant by the term.

What is pre-selling?

Pre-selling is not the same as selling and it is crucial to understand the difference and to be able to write in pre-selling mode. In order to help you with that I have a great FREE resource that you can download and read at your convenience.
